Walpole, MA – After joining the Walpole Express this season, goaltender Austin Smith has committed to UMass Dartmouth for the Fall of 2018. Smith, a 6’3” 165 lb. goalie from Oakland Park, IL, came to the Express from Wichita Falls in the NAHL. Smith is a very talented goaltender who boasted a 13-4 record while playing for the Express so far this year.
“Austin has been great for us this year and one of the many reasons we were so successful. He came in and really showed us just how steady he is in net. He’s a great kid with a bright future ahead of him and I’m excited to see what he can do at the next level,” says Coach Lounsbury.
In 17 games with the Express, Smith has a stingy .933 save percentage, a 2.29 GAA, and three shutouts.
“I’d like to thank my family, friends and the Walpole Express for helping me reach my goal of playing NCAA hockey. It’s a great honor to be attending UMass Dartmouth in the fall and I’m looking forward to the next four years ahead of me,” said Smith.
“We are very happy for Austin and wish him all the best next year,” added Lounsbury.
